Summer is fast approaching; have you booked your holiday yet?

With the effects of the pandemic still taking their toll, many of us remain uncertain about the rules regarding international travel. So, we’re expecting a wave of summer staycations!

Rutland is well known for being the smallest county in the UK – but its size isn’t a testament to the amazing activities on offer.

Discover the best things to do at Rutland Water in our comprehensive guide below:

Visit Barnsdale Gardens

Barnsdale Gardens is a wonderful place to visit. Whether you’re just looking for a lovely day out or are a keen gardener, there’s something on offer for everyone.

There are a variety of beautiful gardens to see –  from a vibrant children’s garden, scenic woodland, and rock feature, to an apple arch and an allotment.

With botanically labelled floral displays on offer, you can make notes as you go, gaining inspiration for your own summer garden.

Enjoy a Bike Ride

From electric and mountain bikes to tandem and child’s bikes, Rutland Cycle Hire offers a large range of options to suit your needs.

The cycle track snakes around the perimeter of Britain’s largest man-made lake. Offering 23 miles of traffic-free space, the track is a fun and safe place for families and lone cyclists alike.

Home to an array of wildlife, make sure to keep an eye out for otters, ospreys, and a host of other magnificent creatures as you go.

Make a Splash at Rutland Water Park

Rutland Aqua Park, open from the 29th May 2021, offers the ultimate day out for all the family (children aged 6+)  to get the heart racing and adrenaline pumping!

The park boasts the tallest obstacle in the UK, a free-fall into the body of water standing at a 5.5m drop, climbing walls, trampolines, and slides.

Everything you need for a fun day out, including wetsuit hire, is available at the aqua park, making it one of the most exciting things to do at Rutland Water!

Make the most of the water with a waterside break at Rutland Hall.

Explore Rutland Nature Reserve

The Rutland Water Nature Reserve is high on the list of things to do at Rutland Water and is internationally known for its wildfowl sanctuary, boasting more than 25,000 waterfowl.

With over 30 bird-watching hides, it’s a great place for spotting the many winged visitors to the 1000 acre area – including ospreys, as the nature reserve is home to the Rutland Osprey Project.

There are also pram/wheelchair-accessible nature trails to take you on adventures around the reservoir and through the meadows, ensuring a delightfully busy day out for all the family.

Visit Rutland Farm Park

Located just 10 minutes from the market town of Oakham, Rutland Farm Park is an ideal place to take the children to explore on your staycation.

Rutland Farm Park is a small, pleasant working farm situated on 18 acres of grassland, offering tracks and fields to explore, as well as a host of farm animals such as llamas and goats. Animal food is available to purchase so you can enjoy feeding them, too!

The farm is open all year round, so you can enjoy the animals no matter when you decide to book your staycation.

These are just a few of the exciting things to do at Rutland Water, and we hope you’ll enjoy each of them when you visit. You can book your stay with us here at Rutland Hall
