Situated in Rutland, England's smallest county, sandwiched between Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. Rutland County Golf Course is situated near to the A1 and close to the historic market towns of Oakham and Stamford. A course in the modern design ethos designed by golf course architect Cameron Sinclair that at the fullest tests the better while in the immortal phrase of Bobby Jones "offering problems a man may attempt according to his ability never hopeless for the lesser player nor failing to concern and interest the experts". From the back tees, Rutland County measures a healthy 6401 yards, the yellows offer a challenging 5922 yards whilst the ladies face a testing 5277 yards. The course begins by heading east alongside the site of the lost medieval village of Hardwick and skirts the boundary of the disused airfield RAF Woolfox Lodge. During construction many practice bombs were unearthed. The 16th hole plays directly through the site of the battle of Losecoat field fought in 1470 between the army of Edward 1V and the supporters of the house of Warwick. Ten thousand men were said to have perished when the Kings artillery routed the rebels and slaughtered them in the woods, now known as Bloody Oaks. The 19th century Hardwick farmhouse has been refurbished and extended to provide golfers with all of the facilities expected of a modern top-line clubhouse.
